Fudgy Chocolate Br-ookies
I wish there was a little space-warp short-cut button on computers these days, so when there was something you absolutely had to share with the world, it was as easy as hitting CTRL + ALT + space-warp. If that existed, I would so space warp you one of these cookies, along with a tall glass of milk. Then you could taste for yourself how amazing these really are. And, that’s my word of choice to describe these chocolatey treats. I’m not even the cookie monster in this family.
These are, by far, the most addicting cookies I have ever eaten. Seriously, don’t do what I did and make these cookies on a Friday night, unless you happen to have a couple of people to share them with on Saturday morning. If you don’t listen, and you do what I did, you better be ready to stand over that jar of cookies all weekend long, just scarfing them down, one after another… feeling utterly remorseful, yet incredibly happy. I promise, this scenario WILL happen. Either that or you’re going to have to find a good enough hiding spot for that cookie jar, so even you will forget where they are.
Why do I rave over this recipe? Well, it’s the texture that sets these chocolatey treats apart from the rest. They’re so soft and chewy, that they almost melt in your mouth, just like you’d expect from a brownie. But, that outer shell, coated in a sugary crust, will quickly remind you of a classic cookie. Well, that and the shape, of course. But, even after four or five of these rich, fudgy treats, you’ll be left wondering what to call them. Are they more like a cookie? Or more like a brownie? It’s so hard to decide.
You can attribute this delightfully soft interior to one secret ingredient. Just one small addition that will turn your cookie world upside down. Cream cheese! Yep, I’m not sure I’ll ever make another cookie dough without it. Just a generous hunk of cream cheese is all that’s needed to make a cookie taste like a brownie. And you really can’t go wrong with a cookie-brownie cross-breed. The Br-ookie. The C-rownie. Doesn’t matter what you call it, all that matters is that you make these, pronto.
When a cookie is this good, you don’t need to mask the flavor with any other add-ins or frostings or chocolate coatings. Just a straight up, chocolate crookie – fudgy and delightful. Melting in your mouth. Reminding you that dessert is important, and you shouldn’t have to choose between a cookie and a brownie. You should eat them both, at once.
