Unfortunately, some Sundays I don’t have the time to make a bunch of snacks and sit around to watch football all day. Booooo! I hate those Sundays when real life gets in the way. It’s been super crazy and busy around the Big Flavors household, and this weekend is just jam-packed with other things going on. Don’t worry though, that’s not stopping me from sharing a new recipe for Super Snackin’ Sunday! In fact, one of my co-workers gave me this super easy appetizer idea. So, if your weekend is just as busy as mine, you’re in luck! In just one crockpot, three ingredients, and four hours (of inactive time, of course) you’ll have a simple and flavorful gameday snack, that both young and old sports fans will gobble up in no time!
Yes, I know the ingredients sound pretty weird. Even Mr. Big Flavors gave me the questionable head shake when I told him what I was about to cook up. Trust me, though! After a few hours in the crockpot the flavors meld together resulting in sticky, sweet, and sour sauce. I suggest finding some good quality meatballs for this snack. I picked up a two-pound package of frozen Rosina meatballs from our local grocery store. Read the ingredients on the side of the package and make sure to buy a variety that doesn’t have a ton of spices involved. I can’t speak from experience, but I’m guessing that dried onion and oregano wouldn’t really do this dish any justice.
However, what will enhance this snack is serving with some siracha hot sauce for dipping. Despite the chili sauce, the sweet & sour mixture isn’t spicy at all, so I found that a little addition of siracha is a great way to add another layer of flavor. Plus, you know I can’t have a snack on game day without making it as spicy as possible! This is such an easy way to get a snack to the game day table when you have a busy morning or can only catch the evening round of games. With only three ingredients (four if you want to serve siracha on the side), what are you waiting for? Pull that crockpot out and get snackin’!
